Jason has had ulcerative colitis for over 13 years that has shrunk and scarred his colon so bad it’s no longer doing its job and needs to be removed. He has primary sclerosis cholangitis which is a progressive disease of the liver and gallbladder characterized by inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts which normally allow bile to drain from the gallbladder. This disease will cause the liver to give out within 10 years & he will need a liver transplant.
Due to a complication with an ERCP procedure for his bile duct, he has necrotizing pancreatitis. Parts of his pancreas are dead and need surgery to remove to prevent abscesses & infection.
For the past two years, he has survived acute pancreatitis that has resulted in too many abscesses & drains to count. He had also survived sepsis twice. We are hoping he can overcome his current complication and gain some weight & strength back. Surgery is in the works to remove the dead pancreas tissue & his colon at the same time. This surgery will have a significant recovery period but will hopefully give him the chance to have an outlook at a better quality of life.
